After leaving MIT and the MIT Media Lab, Robert joined a three person start-up that Intel and Ericsson ultimately invested in that focused on a technology that later became known as Bluetooth. They commercialized their offering and named it DeviceTalk, a combination of sensors, mobile devices, and a central server hosted in a data center that managed triggerable tasks. This company licensed its technology solution to mobile operators and was later acquired by Amazon.com in 1999. At Amazon, Robert led Amazon Anywhere, the name of the new team that focused on mobile commerce and making sure that Amazon’s core features could be accessed on a plethora of devices, both wired and wireless. In 2002, after launching popular offerings in the US, Europe, and Asia, through partnerships with device manufacturers and mobile operators, the Amazon Anywhere team became publically known as the Amazon Web Services (AWS) team after exposing its core technology and APIs to external 3rd party developers. As the technical co-founder and architect of Amazon Anywhere and the AWS platform with 32 issued patents, Robert has been at the forefront of driving a change in how entrepreneurs consume services, how investors evaluate startups, and how existing corporate entities and government agencies innovate, disrupting traditional business models forever using the capabilities of what he and his team helped build.

That was the beginning of a journey that brings us to today – and Robert’s latest company – Sirqul. The Sirqul EaaS Platform (“Ease”) is used by all kinds of companies to rapidly create engaging experiences and applications for their customers, users and employees.

Sirqul is the culmination of over 20 years of innovation in cloud, mobile solutions, APIs and services, applied to the Internet of Things, of which Smart Spaces & Routing Logistics are the primary verticals. Sirqul staff includes people who have been on the journey since 1996, working with Rob at multiple companies, bringing different aspects of the necessary hardware and software together. Sirqul’s vision is to empower existing companies and entrepreneurs to easily imagine and deliver engaging user experiences via connected ecosystems and personal devices, without having to recreate the wheel.
