COMMUNITY GUIDELINES: This Ancestry Facebook page is a professional & educational oriented community where fans can share their passion for genealogy, DNA and/or related topics. This is an inclusive and supportive place for our community to come together, whether you are new to family history or have been building a tree for 20+ years. We encourage you to learn from one another, support one another and share stories with each other. Your participation in this community is important to us.
When participating in this community, we ask that you treat other members with respect and converse with one another in a civil manner. If you disagree with something in a post, please make sure to respond to the subject (and not the person).
These guidelines exist to ensure a healthy and robust community can live and thrive here for years to come.
As part of our commitment to you, the Ancestry community, we’ll do our best to ensure the postings on our fan page are in line with the Ancestry mission of helping everyone discover, preserve and share their family history. However, since we can’t monitor every posting or conversation, Ancestry expects that users will not post content that falls into the following categories and reserves the right to remove postings and comments that are:
• Off topic or Spam. This includes unrelated commercial messages, advertisements, third-party promotions, and solicitations.
• Violate Copyright, Intellectual Property, or other legal rights of third parties. This includes copyrighted material you’re not authorized to distribute, private personal email messages, GEDCOMs owned by other people, and so forth.
• Impersonating others or are false or misleading. Do not pretend to be an employee or a representative of Ancestry, or impersonate another member of the community.
• Making claims or demands regarding Ancestry business practices, operations or upcoming product releases and enhancements.
• Calling out Ancestry employees by name, title, or responsibility. It is acceptable to tag an Ancestry employee if they are participating in a discussion.
• Offensive to our brand, fellow community members or members of the public.
• Abusive comments, defamatory, condescending, or obscene to Ancestry or aimed towards community members.
• Sharing Information on Living Individuals. Out of respect for privacy, we do not allow personal information of living individuals to be shared on our pages including mention of names, date of birth or any other identifiable information.
If an issue does arise, we ask that you report it to us immediately.
Ancestry reserves the right to ban users from our page, delete potentially-offensive posts or comments and, if needed, report users to Facebook for breach of one of the above items.
All users must comply with Facebook’s Terms of Use and our Ancestry Community Guidelines. Ancestry reserves the right to revise and update these Community Guidelines at any time. Any such revisions will be effective on the date of posting to the Ancestry Facebook page and use of the site following any such revisions will be deemed acceptance of such revisions.
