Together with business partners Dana Settle and Ian Sigalow, Patricof wanted to return to early-stage investing via smaller transactions. The firm was founded based on three principles: Venture capital as a long term business: Greycroft takes pride in the caliber of relationships they build with entrepreneurs over time. Entrepreneurs are better off with a flexible partner: Greycroft is flexible on check size, ownership percentage, and board seats. The best VC firms are aligned with founders: Greycroft deliberately maintains smaller early stage funds to ensure fund economics and structure are aligned with founders. They have a separate growth fund that allows them to support entrepreneurs at any stage.FundsGreycroft raised its first fund with $75 million of investor commitments in 2006, its second $131 million fund in 2010, and its third $175 million fund in 2012.The firm is actively investing from two funds today: Greycroft IV: $204 million venture fund Greycroft Growth II: $365 million growth-stage fund The venture fund invests between $100,000 and $5 million in a first check, while the growth fund invests up to $35 million in a company. These two funds enable the firm to support entrepreneurs at any stage, from inception through exit.
