Stage
We prefer to be the first institutional investor in a company, making its first investment in the seed or Series A round.
Seed investments, typically $100K - $500K, are made in companies that meet most of our investment criteria, but have yet to complete the development of their products or are otherwise a bit early for a Series A round. These companies are almost always pre-revenue, but have a visible path to generating revenue.
Series A investments, typically $1M - $3M of the Series A round, are made in companies that have a demonstrable product. Like the seed investments, these companies are often pre-revenue but have a plan to generate revenue. DFJ Gotham will invest up to $6-8 million over the lifetime of companies that receive a Series A investment.

While DFJ Gotham typically leads these investments, they almost always syndicated (co-invest) with other VCs. By working closely with entrepreneurs to select syndicate partners, DFJ Gotham ensures that the boards of portfolio companies are compatible, capable of continued support of the company, and value-adding to the company on both strategic and tactical levels.

Strategic Positioning
We invest in category leaders; companies that are positioned to both become large (with at least $100M of revenue) and blaze new trails in their markets. Category leading companies transform their marketplaces, creating fundamental shifts in their industries and leveraging unfair competitive advantages.

Geography
We primarily invest in companies that are or will be headquartered on the East Coast of the United States. The firm also invests in companies founded in Israel, particularly when they are moving some or all their operations to the U.S.

Management
It is our strong belief that the characteristics of the entrepreneurs are every bit as important as those of the business. Our ideal investments are in companies run by proven managers with a can’t lose attitude. We seek talented, passionate and high-integrity entrepreneurs with both the vision and judgment to turn a good idea into a thriving business.

While these visionaries vary in level of experience and age, they all share uniquely clear vision, a deep passion for their companies and the ability to be inspirational and effective leaders for their teams. We believe that investing in the right management teams is the single most important thing we do.
