See More replace the teacher, and to complement classroom learning or apprentice training provided by employers. Classroom learning is of course great - for students who can keep up with the class! Others accumulate knowledge gaps that limit their ability to absorb new topics, especially in mathematics. This is the primary reason for 40% students failing at 16 and 80% at subsequent re-sit exams, leading to restricted opportunities and unrealised potential - at a personal and national level.
We created E-Numeracy for these students by using AI to personalise four decades of research by Dr Chinn into ‘maths anxiety’. This has enabled us to include unique features such as the following:
a) Our proprietary content knowledge graph understands which maths concepts underpin which others – enabling our ‘Numeracy Trainer’ to identify and fix their knowledge gaps, since the only alternative, traditional 1:1 tutoring, is just not available to those who need it.
b) We address the problem of motivation - “Why am I learning this?” – via our special “Real World” button that pauses the current exercise and immediately shows an example of how the topic being studied is applied in the real world – and not just any application but one relating to their personal interest or career goal
c) We boost student confidence - to counter the “I can’t do maths” problem - by hyper-personalising the content delivered to each student reflecting their learning style, interests and career goals to encourage greater self-belief.
